Educational institutes play a vital role in enriching a country’s socio-cultural and economic aspects; however, when it fails to keep up with global educational trends, it affects the quality of education. Therefore, a ‘’domino effect’’ occurs, wherein student performance declines and pedagogies do not align with learning outcomes.
As a result, the overall institutional output is below par, so avoiding such a crisis is paramount, but the real question is how an institute can ensure high-quality education. The answer lies in NBA accreditation, which helps colleges regulate critical attributes of an institute; from teaching methodologies to curriculum development, all undergo major reformation.
What is NBA accreditation?
NBA is an acronym for the National Board of Accreditation and is one of the two accreditation bodies that serve to accredit higher educational institutions in India. Furthermore, it is a distinguished regulatory body that ensures particular diploma, graduate, and postgraduate degrees are in line with established criteria.
So, when someone says NBA-accredited courses, it relates to the fact that the programme modules have been prepared by incorporating the latest knowledge and skills. Similarly, the teaching techniques are modern and cater to determining the learning gaps; the focus is on implementing strategies that engage students in the learning process.
Objectives of NBA
-
NBA accreditation assures that after graduating in courses accredited by the NBA, students will possess the academic knowledge and competency to pursue their professional careers in the following fields.
-
Hospitality and Tourism Management
-
Computer Applications
-
Architecture
-
Pharmacy
-
Engineering and Technology
-
Systematic Evaluation of institute function that facilitates particular courses and programmes, depending on which it provides technical training.
-
Integrating top-notch systems that boost enriching student learning experiences and which line up with the latest market demands.
-
Establishing an excellent education system that strives to promote a practical, hands-on approach teaching and learning approach.
Accreditation Process
The NBA accreditation process includes five crucial steps that the institute needs to follow step by step.
-
Online Registration
The first step requires the institute to register online by filling out a form and paying the registration fees. Also, they need to submit the institute’s basic details with an official registered email Id on the ‘’eNBA” portal.
-
Details Submission
After paying the nominal registration fees, which is 10 percent of the total registration fees, a permanent user ID with password credentials will be generated. The institute must submit additional details, including the name of the head of the institute, information regarding the key promoters, bank details of the institution, and the programs that they want to propose for the accreditation process. Lastly, they also need to submit soft copies of all AICTE Approval Letters (year-wise letters of the past five years) or any suitable regulatory authority.
-
SAR Report Generation
When the institute team member completes the submission of the details, they must prepare a self-assessment report (SAR) that includes 22 program-specific documents and about 17 institution-specific documents. Moreover, the institute can useERP campus, an advanced solution that helps streamline all documents; in effect, it can save time and effort, helping to complete the documentation process effectively.
Besides, the process has to be completed through self-evaluation of the internal work processes and activities. Besides, it is crucial for the institute to identify recurrent issues, so they must implement corrective measures and improve their functions.
Then, they must submit the report online and pay 90 percent of the registration fees.
-
NBA Peer Team Visit
If the e-Sar report is successfully submitted and accepted, the NBA members invite qualified institutes to suggest and determine final dates for an in-person visit to the institute campus. Therefore, the team visits the campus on a pre-determined date and assesses every crucial detail as per the SAR.
-
Analysis and Evaluation by Committee Members
In the final and critical phase of the process, the evaluation team observes and analyses the report based on their guidelines. Then, the team sends the report to the Evaluation and Accreditation Committee (EAC), which also notes the institute’s response to the report. The EAC then recommends the Academic Advisory Committee for the final step of the NBA accreditation process.
NBA Accreditation Parameters
The NBA evaluation team assesses the programmes offered by the institute based on the following parameters:
-
Mission and Vision Statements
Mission statements reflect the institute’s strategy, roadmap, and methods it will implement to fulfill specific objectives. On the other hand, vision statements refer to future-oriented goals to facilitate quality education.
-
Programme Educational Objectives
Program Educational Objectives or PEOs are broad statements that describe professional competencies and technical knowledge that students would be able to demonstrate by the time they graduate.
-
Programme Outcomes
It refers to the intended knowledge and skills that students would possess after the completion of the specific programme.
-
Course Outcomes
Course Outcomes are measurable and particular statements that explain learners’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes that they would demonstrate after completing the course.
-
Faculty Contributions
It relates to individual faculty’s achievements and contributions to the institution’s growth.
-
Student’s Performance
Classwise and batch-wise in-depth reports of student performance, including attendance and progress reports.
-
Teaching and Learning Process
The teaching methodologies and pedagogies used by the faculty to measure and evaluate student progress falls under this category.
-
Laboratories, Infrastructure, and Library associated with programmes
Includes institutional infrastructure such as libraries, computers, and research labs to support student learning.
In Conclusion,
NBA accreditation is a significant quality assurance process that helps institutes to identify their weak areas and make vital changes to meet the highest standards. As a result, the courses and programmes offered by the institute undergo major restructuring, enabling students to get the best training and relevant knowledge.
